Default 4x4 troubles

Hi everyone, I'm working on a 2000 Blazer and I've ran off the normal 4x4 trouble road. It started simple, (as bad things normally do) service 4wd light, transfer case actuator issue, couldn't shift out of 4 hi. OK, no big deal, replace encoder motor, right? Well the new motor came in 2wd. OK, Have read from multiple places online that all you have to do is switch the transfer case to match the encoder motor. Did that, everything went smoothly, reassembled, turned key on, truck says it is in 4 hi, Not thinking I hit the 2 hi button. and this is where we leave the road. the truck thought it was in 4 hi, when it was really in 2wd. it tried shifting to 2wd (2 clicks from 4hi. well that ended up deadheading in neutral. fault lights, then all lights went out. so I unhooked battery, and went back to looking online. found a video from an auto parts store showing install method when it doesn't match telling to hit the button corresponding to the mode the transfer case is in, without the encoder being mounted to the transfer case. hooked battery up showing 2 hi, no faults. tried that, shifted back to 4 hi, on transfer case, and encoder motor. the encoder motor shifted too far. now the encoder will not line up with the transfer case, if I choose a different mode I assume it won't line up with the transfer case as 4 hi did. Any ideas on how to reindex the encoder so it lines up with the transfer case? Any other ideas on how to fix this simple problem gone wild?
