Default 99 Chevy Blazer making weird noise

My 99 Chevy Blazer is making a very weird noise.First let me note that the 4wd does not work.I bought this vehicle from a friend.Yesterday out of no where it started making a loud rubbing noise in the front end of the car.I took it to my mechanic and he said he thinks it has something to do with the 4wd.It is nothing with my tire(s) or any of that.It does not make the noise in reverse, and sounds more quiet the faster I go.I know I need new brake pads but this is not the cause of the noise.I have no idea what this could be.Anyone have any suggestions?

Could be a problem with the front axle being partially engaged.

How many buttons do you have on the switch in the dash?

Also, let me add that none of those buttons are ever lit.
