Would having shot shocks make a pop when you hit a bump?

I really dont think its my ball joints...it sounds more like the shocks poping.

I can look at the shocks and see that they are old as all get out...they are even rusty looking.

But it doesnt do the whole boat bounceing thing...

So can a shock seize up? Perhaps they have leaked all the oil out and rusted on the inside causeing them to be very stiff? I have a super stiff ride.

I have jacked the truck up and tried shaking the front wheel and all that stuff to test for a bad ball joint but the wheel dont budge what so ever.

Anyone want to add some info? Ive searched the net for a couple hours now and all I find is that "if the shocks are bad its like driving a boat"

 

I would first make sure that the shock bolts are completely tight. I installed new shocks on my Bravada when I had it and the inner sleeve on either end of the shocks were just a tad shorter than the originals (to aid in installation no doubt...). Well, this meant that I had to really tighten down the mounting bolts to pull the metal in to tighten up on the inner sleeve. Drove me nuts for a LONG time until I finally tracked it down to loose upper mounts. Tightened them down and the noise went away. It sounded almost exactly like a worn ball joint.

I guess I could of summed up the pop sound as the suspension bottoming out...not sure why I didnt think to word it like that when making the post.

If you're looking to replace them here's something. I replaced the shocks after the oil had leaked out and I have to tell you, some of the bolts were difficult to get off. Even after soaking them with WD-40 it took probably an hour to get two bolts off. With yours bieng rusty it might be more difficult. I don't really have any suggestions besides the WD-40 on taking them off.
