Default Blazer 4x4 Lockup

My 2000 Blazer seems to be having a problem with the transfer case `apparently` locking up when in 4x4 mode. It seems to be fine when going straight, but turn the wheels and it seems to suffer Axle Wind Up. I have NOT tried this at speed, but only from a standstill and VERY slowly. As soon as it appears to lock I have to disengage it and move forward a bit to `unlock` it. The transfer case is an NP233 3 button.

Has anyone had this happen to them and does this unit have a centre diff like a Land Rover. Any exploded views I have seen do not appear to show one.

Thanks

TinW

The NP233 is a straight forward, rock solid, no frills transfer case. 4WD should not be engaged on dry pavement. When they lock up, you'll definitely know it, and it will need overhauling. What you're describing sounds like what is commonly referred to as "crow hop". The tighter the turn, the more crow hop you get. It's caused by differences in tire circumference, usually on the front axle. The difference in tire speed when turning causes the front differential to bind. Something as minor as low pressure in one tire can cause it. All 4 tires need to be the same size, same brand, same amount of tread wear on all tires, and the same tire pressure.

Start from here:

We have assembled some information about the nv233 and switch.

The information is pertinent to the 1st gen Blazer so make sure you check the sources vs. what you have.
