Buggered some threads hitting the wrong spot and seal installment issues

NEVER hit a seal or bearing.
ONE wrong tap can put a dent in a bearing race or distort the seal shell. Even dropping a bearing invites permanent damage.
Use a press or what I do in place is use hardened fine thread rod, nuts and large flat washers to make an on- vehicle press. I've done full diff rebuilds like that with the axle in the vehicle. Use the old bearing or seal to drive the new one in place.
Make sure the new bearing or seal is started strait with calipers if a press is not used.
