Default Cant Remove Castle Nut

Hey everyone I have a 1998 Chevy blazer I'm trying to replace upper control arm but cant seem to get the castle nut off from the upper ball joint the cotter pin was broken off so i drilled the cotter pin out now cant get the crown nut don't have enough room to get a socket inside because the Cv axle is blocking me been trying to use a monkey wrench and vise grips but keep slipping and cant seem to get it loose this is my first time replacing a upper control arm so any advice or tip would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If you are replacing the control arm and ball joint I would just cut the ball joint off right below the spindle. Or try heating the nut and using a wrench instead of a socket.

Take the knuckle and control arm off as a unit, leaving the axle on the truck. Then you should have plenty of room to work on it on the bench.

I always use a wrench for that nut, I don't think I've ever been able to get a socket on it.

I've also used visegrips on the stem of the ball joint to stop it from spinning if the nut is seized.
