Default Clear power steeering fluid not red?

Can I use prestone clear power steering fluid or do I need the red stuff? It was the red stuff in the old pump etc.

Thanks much.

Power steering fluid is supposed to clear, red would be transmission fluid. I've seen tranny fluid used in substitution because it's cheaper and/or didn't have power steering fluid at the moment.

depends on the application, some power steering fluid is red, some systems(ford) use type f transmission fluid
just because it is red doesnt mean its bad

You will find PS fluid in both red and clear in color. Many people, including myself, have used tranny fluid as a substitute. It is very similar, and some may use it from the factory. Check to see what was used from the factory if you want to get specific and use that. Otherwise just put a quality PS fluid in it.
