Default Clicking noise while driving straight?

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my 93 GMC S-15 Jimmy, 4wd.

About a week ago, while the windows were down, I could hear a clicking noise when I would pass a building or go under an overpass from my front right wheel/tire. It increased and decreased with speed and couldn't be heard with the windows up.

So I jacked the truck up and got behind the wheel. There was grease everywhere. There was a little split in the CV boot, explaining the grease. But my question is would a bad CV joint click while going forward? There's no real noise when turning, it might be there but I can't take a turn fast enough to really hear any clicking noise.

So do you think it's the CV joint or maybe wheel bearing?

Thanks.

Typically if the boot's gone so is the CV. How bad is the boot? How long has the joint been "dry"?

Sounds like it is time for new cv shafts... no pun intended.

The boot isn't too bad, it's really only got maybe a 1 inch split in it. And it's only been like that for a couple days now. We changed the ball joints maybe two weeks ago and the boot was fine. I plan on changing the shaft, not just the boot, but I just wanted to see if anyone thought it might be something else too.

sounds like the age old cv goin bad sound usually with wheel bearings u dont really catch it until the bearing starts to sieze and feels like you are pushin the brakes goin down the road. It doesnt take long for a dry cv to pop.
