Default compatible rear ends

Good afternoon! I was wondering where I can find out what are the compatible years for our 1991 Blazer (full size-4x4). We had the brakes done last week & our mechanic suggested replacing the rear end soon as there is a lot of play in the gears and when it's put into gear, it makes a kind of 'clunking' sound. :0(

Thanks so much for your help!

Sounds like a U-joint not the gears in the rear end. You can check this yourself. On a level surface, parking brake on, tranny in neutral, get under the truck and try to move the driveshaft back and forth. If it moves and clunks (may not) look at the U-joints to see the play. If you can notice any, they're on their way out. If you can really see them jump around, they're shot.

you said it Gimpy.

it sure sounds like you need to find a new mechanic Scrappy (if it does turn out to be a u-joint).

keep us updated.
