Default Did I break the G80?

So I just bought my 2000 Blazer on Christmas Eve and already am having problems with it. I ran into a cold starting issue that I have another thread on.

Anyway, the other day I was at a drive-thru and grabbed my food. I started driving off and realized the guy was handing me another bag. I stopped quickly, grabbed the bag, and hit the gas a little too much. The wheels started to spin on a small patch of ice and then the G80 locked, then hit pavement within a matter of seconds. I quickly got out of the throttle and rolled to the exit and heard a clunking in the back end of the truck that went away after a few seconds. I thought I had broken the rear end (know exactly what it sounds like as I destroyed a 10 bolt in my 2000 SS Camaro) at first but when the sound went away I thought it may have been that the G80 was not fully locked. I have messed around on a fully snow covered road and both tires seem to be spinning but I do not hear the G80 clunk that I was used to when I knew it worked before.

I am going to take the rear cover off and inspect it but want to make sure I know what I am looking for. Any distinct signs I will see if the G80 is indeed messed up? I am beginning to get frustrated with this truck and I just got the damn thing! Thanks all.

Arrow PICS Ahoy!

With the rear cover off, you should see something along these lines:

Obviously if you see this kind of stuff:

or

it's gonna be bad...

Besides obviously mashed up bits, look for stress fractures

and things that "dont look right" as far as how the part is shaped or sitting

oh, and if teeth fell out thats bad too

Thanks man. I will check it out this week after work when I have some time and I don't have to be near a bathroom or trash can, ha.

When mine locks up & sometimes when I'm turning right away (can't remember which direction, possibly right) one rear wheel skips because it hasn't dissengaged. Backing up takes care of it but I'll be watching this thread! good luck
