Default Electric to Manual 4x4 Article

I have a question about the this article posted in the tech area. I am trying this cause I can't get the truck out of 4 hi. My question is I've tried to turn the peg all the way clockwise and it will not go any further than it was originally set at which is 4 hi, well it maybe turned a little. What does this mean? Could this mean something else is broke?

Does the truck need to be running? Sorry if its a dumb question, but I am very new at working on my truck.

If the drivetrain is under tension, it may not come out of 4wd easily. You should jack up the truck so that at least one wheel front & rear are off the ground. This will allow the drivetrain to move, releasing the tension in the system and you should be able to move the shift sector shaft. If you still cannot move the shaft, then there is likely a problem inside the transfer case.

Ok got it to move clockwise. Your article says all the way clockwise is 2x4. How much is it suppose to turn clockwise? It went about a 1/4 turn maybe a little more. Or is there a way to verify it's out of 4x4? If I lift the passenger tire it should turn if 4x4 is disengaged, right?

I think a 1/4 turn should be enough. If the front axle is disengaged, the front driveshaft should spin freely.

You know what, your helping me with the fuel injection problem also. It's just the truck idles rough. I can hear the transfer case (I think) radling. I thought because my truck wouldn't come out of 4x4 that was causing this noise. It's been stuck for about 3 months. It used to work, just fine. BUT, the 4x4 would pop the fuse under the hood every so often. I just thought that because the 4x4 has been stuck that is why the transfer case was making a radling noise, but could the rough idle from my random misfire on the fuel injectors just idle rough enough to make the transfer case make that radling noise? I was just really concerned about it. Hey thanks again for all your help. This is a great website, I'm definately hooked.
