IMO you would be much better off getting a selectable for the rear and leaving the front open. Less risk of breaking something.

As for how long it would last, no clue. Depends what situations you might get into, might blow it up first wheeling trip or it might last for a decent amount of time if you take it really easy. Playing on the rocks will be more likely to break it than mud.
