Front differentials - years/differences

Can anyone tell me if there are differences in front diff's from year to year - is a GT4 in a 97 the same as a 98 or 99
or were there changes from year to year ??

All the second gens should be the same besides gearing. Some have an iron case instead of aluminum but it still wont matter.

mounting tang

Does anyone know about the mounting tang for the front diff - apparently a GM mechanic said the mounting tang for one bolt is 3/4 inch further forward on the diff housing on 2000 and newer models and therefore earlier diffs will not mount - any truth to this ?
