Red face G80 gov-lock vs selectable locker?

My Blazer S-10 has the G80 gov-lock in the rear, but I hear that it tends to explode.. The car is close to 20 years old, so I'm worried that I might be driving around with a ticking bomb. Is this thing worth anything for off-road use, or should I be looking for a replacement diff & a selectable locker?

look into getting a eaton limited slip they are like $400, its pretty much a stronger g80, because the g80 is made by eaton

Thank you, that sounds good. Can it be fitted in the differential that I have?

EDIT: After a bit of peeking around I found this: http://store.arbusa.com/ARB-Air-Lock...D84-P3559.aspx
It fits "GM 10 Bolt 8.5' 30 Spline 2.73 & Up" (quote) which should be possible to swap into an S10, no? Didn't the ZR2 come with something like this?

And, yeah, I really would prefer a selectable locker if I can get it. As most physicsheads would know, the dynamic friction coefficient is lower than the static one - i.e. if you start slipping it takes more to get you going again than if you never slipped in the first place. Although an LSD certainly helps, it only acts after the tires have lost traction.
