Question Hub Bearing Info

Hey guys, need some advice

I got new tires for my Blazer and wanted to get an alignment done. i was told that the alignment would be pointless as my wheel hub bearing are bad. The actual logic I was presented with was more along the lines of "theyre fine for now, but eventually theyll go bad, either way we need to do them for $600 so we can do the alignment"

I have no noises coming from the car while driving, turning or braking. No issues while driving whatsoever. I tried the 6 and 12 o'clock test and there was very minimal play (1/8 to 1/4" maybe?)

My question: Do you guys think they're bs'ing me and should I just go to another alignment shop?

Any play is bad. If they moved that much, then it may be bad. That is enough to throw off an alignment.

Hmm yea I got a second opinion today and they showed me that they're bad, the play was very minor and worse on the drivers side. Also found out the left side torsion bar has been cranked almost all the way up....

If I have no trouble with these bearing as of now with minor play how long can I expect them to last?

Also, if anyone has the answer to this question, why (and how) does play indicate a worn bearing?

The wheel bearings are meant to rotate only on one axis and should not have hardly any movement off this axis. Once there is excess movement, it indicates that the bearing has worn and is in need of replacement.

They could fail tomorrow or last a month. There really is no way to tell. But if you do wait until they fail, you will be into it for a lot more $$$.
