Default I found out why my torsion bar bolts were out

I got under my truck to put the torsion bar bolts back in to level it out a bit. The bad news is that I figured out why they weren't in when I bought it. It is stripped out where the drivers side bolt goes.
Can I drill it out a bit and re thread it and put a larger bolt in it? Or does it have to have the 'ball' on the end of the bolt?
