Would a 1999 zr2 with an auto trans have a Iron or Aluminum front diff? Also would it work in a 1996 non-zr2 blazer? I need to re-gear the front to match the rear and I figured as long as I'm doing it I would try and find an Iron front diff. Any help would be great. Thanks

 

Nope...only 5 spd ZR2 blazers got iron diffs. If you really want the iron diff, you can buy them brand new from American Axle Manufacturers...I think they run about $400. And i know the front diff was changed at some point to flanged/non-flanged (or vice versa?)...but no idea on what year that happened.

Also non-z 5 spd blazers also got the iron front diff I believe...just not sure if it was all or just some.

What happened to your SFA plans?

 

Thanks for the info! I still plan on doing the sfa swap, but it doesn't look like its gonna happen before winter. So I figured since I have a 4.10 gear and install kit for the front laying around I would throw it in so I have 4x4 for the snow. Just saw the add for the front diff out of the zr2 and figured if it was iron I would pick it up and throw it in.
