hey everyone, new member glad to be part of this forum.
Just having some problems with my front hub rebuild (auto locking) wondering if anyone can help
recently installed a new set of hubs and wheel bearings, and i cant seem to keep the outer spindle nut from tightening the inner nut. Ive gotten it to where the hubs seem to spin freeley enough, but after driving for a bit the hubs start heating up pretty good on me. I also noticed some smoke coming from the hubs (maybe just excess grease burning off) (brand new spindle nuts btw) im no stranger to doing wheel bearing jobs but this was my first 4x4 rebuild and i suspect the hubs are still too tight. I took them back apart this last weekend just to make sure I packed the bearings good enough and there was still tons of grease inside the bearings, so i packed even more in there and put them all back on. Still couldent get the outside spindle nut to stop turning the inside one. any ideas? thanks
ps
First time i followed manuals torque procedure and second time i tried to do it just by feel

does it have that washer between the two nuts?
basically the first nut you tighten down, tighten it kinda snug then back it off like a quarter turn. that nut should have a little tab that stucks up off it that one of the holes from the washer goes onto it to keep that nut from backing off. make sure that one of those washer holes slides onto the tab, sometimes you can get it on the first try other times you have to move that inner nut a hair and try again til it goes on the second nut you can put pretty tight to keep either of those two from moving.

locktite maybe? used to happen to my truck when i first got it cause that little tab was broken off both of my inside nuts and didnt know any better i just checked them weekly.
but yeah ive been running 10 bolts or dana60s for the past 10 years and have never had this happen once you snug the outer nut

cool thanks! ive been looking into it more and i noticed the second time i took the hubs apart the calipers and pads were grabbinig the rotor really tight and its hard to turn the hub with them on, but they spin freeley enough without them.
maybe brake drag is causing all the extra heat? I was planning on doing calipers and brake lines anyways
