Dude, that's insane.

There was a way to turn your wheels and track the rotation of the drive shaft to figure out the gear ratio. I'll look it up.

With a non-posi differential, you block off the front wheels, put the transmission in neutral with the parking brake off, and jack one rear wheel off the ground. Put one piece of painters tape or electrical tape (something easily visible) on the driveshaft, parallel to the ground. Take another piece of tape, and put it on top of the tire of the wheel which is jacked up off the ground. Turn the wheel ten times. As you're doing this, have someone count the number of driveshaft rotations against these ten revolutions of the pinion. If you get, for example, 35 rotations of the driveshaft against 10 rotations of the pinion, then you've got 35/10, or a 3.55 ratio, or perhaps 3.58s.
If you want to open up the carrier and count ring gears, there's always that option, as well... it's more precise, but more difficult and time consuming. If you have, for example, 41 teeth on the ring gear and ten teeth on the pinion, you have 41/10, or a 4.10 ratio.
