Default Loose steering

I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer LT, the steering is loose and was wondering if anyone had found a solution to that problem. I was told to replace the idler arm but did not know if that was accurate information. Any input would be nice, thank you.

It could be a number of steering componets: bad idler arm, pitman arm, or tie rods is what I would look into. You just need to shake down your suspension and find out what is loose.

Agreed with 50lb_cat. You just need to jack it up and shake the tires. Even better would be to have a friend shake the tires while you examine everything. Make sure that you take off the plastic wind deflector thing under the engine so you can get a good look at it all. Remember 3 and 9 o'clock for tie rods, idler arm, and pitman arm. 12 and 6 o'clock for ball joints. If you hit up youtube you can watch a few videos identifying what parts you're looking at and it explains it a little better.

& last but not least the rag joint. Haven't seen too many issues with them but they do wear out. Even more unlikely is a loose PS box.
More likely are the pitman, idler &/or tie rod ends as they stated.
Use the Search feature & you'll find lots to read up on about diagnosis, parts, replacement etc.
