So they are replacing the control arms complete, but also charging for the ball joints... That doesn't make sense.

And I'm betting that they would gouge pretty good once they find out where the leak is. I'd pass on that and give it a go as a DIY project.

Back to the original question though, where's a good place to buy these parts? Any special tools needed to get the job done?

I have found over the years that a lot of auto parts places are close to the
same price.. as long you are comparing the same brand of part..
I have also found a lot of parts are being made in China, which
i have found to be of lesser quality than the origional part,,
So getting to your origional question, Rock Auto offers good prices
on parts as many other online companies, but you must watch
where the part is made, I personally buy Moog Front end parts
Timkin bearings and seals, and Bendix Brake components, as another
poster says "you get what you pay for" is very true. I personally will
take chances in life, but not to the point of endangering me or the
possibility of hurting others..
I know that sounds extreme, but a 5300 Lb vehichle can do a lot of
damage....
Special tools,, a big hammer, ball joint splitter(fork looking thing) if the ball joints are
original a chisle for the rivits, then a drill to drill them out, some sockets and wrenches
you know typical home owner car tool stuff

WOW those prices are high $345.80 for ONE upper control arm?????
$255.80 for ONE lower control arm????????

The lower's aren't THAT far off but go on Rockauto and you can find The lower's for $186 a piece (plus you can find 5% discount codes for rockauto on the net if you search) BTW these are complete with the ball joints... AND AcDelco OEM.

For the uppers it doesn't seem that have the 4x4 in AcDelco, However they have Raybestos for $126, and MOOG's for less than $100 (also complete with ball joint)

seems like alot of money for some simple parts to change out with simple hand tools. I did the rough country 2.5 lift which comes with upper a-arms with balljoints, shocks, etc. and replaced my lower ball joints and was still under $500.00.

That is strange, try Chevy, I know everyone hates to take their car to the dealer but $2500? Chevy did it for me, using factory parts (So you know they are the right ones) and only charged me $500.
