Steering on my blazer is all loose. Took it to my mechanic yesterday, and he said I need to replace the steering coupler shaft. Is that by chance the same thing as the steering intermediate shaft? The only steering coupler shafts I'm finding are straight from chevy and are around $350. I'd certainly rather not pay that much. My blazer is already over 212k miles and I've just put over $1000 into it, including new tires. Thanks guys

I have a 95 blazer. 262 4.3L 262 4x2. The steering has about an inch of play seems like im driving an oldies car especially when you hit ruff streets feels like you are fighting to keep it under control. I know its the steering coulpler. Its the steering shaft then a piece of rubber and another piece of metal that goes to the gear box. Trying to make as much sense as I can. Well that piece is worn out, well not worn but since its all riveted together theres no tightening it. So it has to get replaced. The issue im having is that I cant take the shaft off from the firewall. I can loosen the bolt from the gearbox buts thats about it. Can I have some tech comment on how to take the shaft off. Besides sawing any crusual part. Later ill work on getting a swivel u joint.
