Default Nwe to me 72, drives like a boat

I have a 1972 I just bought off of BAT. I like almost everything about it. It drives horribly. It has a 6" lift. I want to get it back to a stock height or at most a 2" lift. I've got a good friend looking into possibilites. I thought I'd try out this form for help. I'm the kind of guy that will pay a little more for quality that will last a long time. A little overkill to get high qualty works for me. What I want is for the blazer to be a nice driver. Right now it drives like a boat. I'll attache some photos.

My dad has a 72 I hope to restore someday but it looks like that’s a bolt on lift kit almost spacing the leaf springs down. If so you should be able to just remove the leaf spring spacers and go back to stock ride height.

Yes I'll bet it does - the problem is whoever spent a lot of money in the lift kit did not do the math for the body design - in other words the higher you lift the wider the footprint you need to support the vehicle center of gravity- as it sits it looks like it might roll over just sitting there - your right - take back to stock for a driver- but even then- that vehicle was never known for its comfy drivability!! If it were mine I would go with offset rims to widen the stance - 1 inch wheel spacers to widen it more - then modify the body wherever the tires rub!- no I take that back - after looking at the pictures - that thing is mint condition - can't touch the body - in 10.more years it's gunna be worth a mint- raise up another 3 inches and offset the rims so it has a solid stance!! So it feels stabile !

Modifying it any other way your loosing too much money as it has been done top shelf so far !!!!

Raise it up and get wider tires - on offset rims with 1 inch spacers is my advice

You have a lot going on there. The front spring hangers are definitely NOT stock, and they're welded on. The leaf springs themselves are pretty flat, so you aren't going to be able to lower it much by replacing them. You can convert it to crossover steering, which may help a bit, or you might just have to get used to the way it rides. If you aren't used to driving lifted vehicles, it probably feels a lot more unstable to you than it actually is.

It looks like the front spring mounts are bolted in replacing the riveted bracket that would have been in there to both hold the core support mounts and front spring mounts. This is quite common as the core support mounts liked to rot out. In this case, the front mounts may support up to a 52" spring (multiple mounting locations). Stock 1st gen front spring length is 46" from what I could dredge up.

As far as the ride quality is concerned, those spring packs look like they are considerably over sprung. The stock front springs were rated at 900lbs or 1100lbs and were a two or three leaf setup. What is in the truck now looks like a 5 leaf spring pack (not counting the short spacer on the bottom). I couldn't see the sticker well enough on the spring pack that is in one of the images, but if there is a model number that you could contact the manufacturer and ask the specs, that could give you a direction to go in.

Second picture, frame mounted stabilizer bar isnt doing anything. Its supposed to resist torque from each side. It wont raised up on the wheel ends with those vertical rods. The force will try to tilt those rods
