Default O look another 4x4 question

I've been reading this forum for awhile now and just bought a 1995 Blazer 2dr 4x4. This is not my first 4x4 but it is my first Blazer. Now my big questions is How can you tell if its in 4x4, I push the 4HI button and it lights up and hear a thud in the front end but it doesnt feel any different when im driving, is this how it is?
I plan on jacking up the front this weekend and check to see if things lock unless you guys think its normal.
Thanks for your help!!!!

Nothing? Not even when turning hard? How 'bout parking on the grass or some gravel and drop it in 4X4 and hammer down the accelerator? Does the front end grab? If no to these then you have an issue. Sounds like it is "trying" to lock the front hubs anyway.

Thanks for the reply! I havent tried real hard at this yet but no when I turn hard it seems to be the same. I've had several other 4x4's and you can feel it when you turn but not this one.

I think you should feel some binding in 4X4 on dry pavement and turning hard. There's a bunch of info on here about the front diff actuator maybe that'll help.

I know the actuator under the battery is working and the cable pulls, I think if it didnt pull it wouldnt light up the 4HI, but I did check it and found that the clip that holds the cable in place was bent and didnt hold the cable so I replaced the clip with an old one I found in the Blazer and it holds tight.
Thanks again for everyone's .02 any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!
