Default pfff those stupid rivets or whatever they are called (chevy style nuts) top of shocks

was trying to change out rear shocks last nite. everything seemed to be going well when I noticed that one of the top bolts was just spinning and spinning and spinning. anyways, i looked at the top through the wheel well and the stupid rivet style nut (like who the hell thought of that?) is seized on the bolt and simply just broke off from wherever the hell it is attached to.

question is, how the frig do I get it off now? it is one of the inside ones. i can not imagine trying to cut it from the top. how do i get any of them off if they are all sized in the same way? please advise.

I haven't had this happen on an s-series, but I have had it happen on a number of other vehicles. You need to try to get a vice grip up there and onto the nut. If you do not have room to do that, you may have to remove/loosen some body mount bolts to jack the body up.

flip man this is so annoying. the worst part is that it's not even a real nut. it's like a clip of sort.

i had the same thing happened to one of the battery tray nuts. the stupid nut (not sure if u can even call it a nut) that's attached to the back side of the mounting hole broke off and the bolt was just spinning for ever.

i was so angry i just bashed it off, was such a reliefe.

Nothing like the joy and pleasure of turning old bolts and nuts, it will surely make your day! Been there and done that.

I was not referring on how to loosen them only the pleasure it give us trying to turn old bolts and nuts are frozen up.

I've used everything in my chest to loosen them from vice grips which has been mentioned, soaking them with penetrating fluid letting them soak, using a chisel and hammer, blow torch heating them and or cutting them off with the torch.
