Default Possible Problem as well as G80 questions...

Today my friend and I decided to do a little off roading and head to the typical spot to hit the mud while its soggy and sloppy. Yay right? no. I keep the truck in 2wd through the first quarter because its pretty straight forward with small ruts. As soon as I get towards the "stuck spot" I hit the 4wd Hi button expecting my truck which has never let me down to immediately pop into 4wd of course the light just blinks for about 20 seconds at which point I say **** it and just try to back all the way out of the muddin spot in 2wd through these ice covered, 1 ft deep ruts. Needless to say I am stuck within 30 seconds looking like a fool. I turn the truck off, get out and let it sit to see if it might be the computer. I also call my friend with a jeep grand cherokee. My friend gets in presses 4 lo, and within 15 seconds i hear the typical POP! and sure enough 4wd is back. With ease we pull out of the stuck spot and get out of the ruts which still leaves me freaking out about 4wd. We pull away and then once out of danger i start going through each of the buttons and all of them are suddenly working. So my question, is it possible my actuator or something is going out? If so this moves top of the list. (Edit: I tried the 4wd multiple times while stuck and the button would just blink)

Next Topic: Im thinking about looking for a G80 at a local junkyard and was wondering if there are any tutorials on how to remove one of them or something of the sort? One to install it would also be helpful. Thanks Guys/Gals

Not sure on the transfer case. It might be the encoder motor but possibly a bad wire somewhere too. For the G80 I would look into getting a locker. You will pay more but they are a lot more reliable. G80s are not real durable and wear out often. I would bet 50% of the people on here that have a G80 dont have a working one. When i bought my blazer it had 90k on it and the G80 was already shot. You would be much happier with a locker.

I have the g80 in mine... Don't really offroad too much, but its fine for now...

The install would be the same as the uninstall but backwards....

Like, I wouldnt worry about doing anything but swapping out complete axles, if it were me....

got a g80 in my k5, so far so good, although i have heard of them failing and im better off putting a detroit locker in, idk then you got more tire wear, a g80 will get you out of that odd spot that 4wd won't

i have an Auburn posi unit sitting in the shed (took it outta my '92 when she went "bye").

if (and when?) the original G80 goes in mine (less than a tank away from the 200K mark), i'll be swapping in the Auburn unit.
