Power steering pump and hose replacement, should I do it??
Hi all,
I purchased a Red Head power steering gear and now I'm thinking that maybe I should also replace at least the hoses and perhaps also the pump so to have a completely new system to avoid contamination of the new gear from disintegrating hoses or pump components.
I was going to install a filter in the return hose whether I get a new pump or hoses or not.
What does the hive-mind think?
Would installing a filter in the existing system of hoses and pump now be sufficient or would I be better off doing a full replacement of the hoses and pump too?
FYI: I did a flush of the power steering system several years ago.

I would go ahead and change everything out if it were me. When digging in deep to change out one component, I tend to replace other stuff just so I won't have to do something again in a couple of months.
I took a look under the hood and decided to go ahead and replace the hoses only. The pump fluid is still in good shape after I replaced it several years ago and there are no leaks on the outside of the pump.
I figure if the pump goes, it will give me warning whereas hoses can fail catastrophically!
