RE: Powertrax Lock Right rear differential?????
My cousin had a lunchbox locker (not sure if it was a powertrax though) in his old Chevy pickup with the 12 bolt rear. It was a bit rough on the road, but worked VERY well offroad.
You will definitely have to learn how to turn all over again with it. You had to let off the gas to get it to unlock and his would bang when it unlocked, then click the whole while you were turning. If you hit the gas too much, it would lock back in and tire scrub the rest of the way around the turn. He had some pretty bad tire wear as a result.
If you are going to do A LOT of offroading, and not so much daily driving, then then a drop in locker is the way to go. If you want the best of both worlds, you really have to look into a new diff carrier. At that point, it really will depend on how much you want to spend. If you do not have a lot to spend, then you can go with a limited slip diff. If you have a bit more, you can go with either a cable actuated, air, or electric locker.
