Default Rear Axle Broke

I got my truck stuck last night and had to go back for it today. When I finally got the truck out I notice that my back passanger wheel is sticking out of the wheel well more than it should. I jack it up and the wheel and axle just slide right out. Now what am I to do. The truck is about a mile into the woods, it was hard enough to get it in there with 4 wheels how am I suppossed to get it out with just three. How hard is it to replace a rear axle, could I do it in the woods?

Well its possible but not fun. If it were you i would get a bigger truck, push the axle in as best ya can, and drag the thing out. If its only about a mile you shouldnt have too much trouble. Not it is entirely possible that if you only broke the c-clip and not the splines on the shaft you can drive it out if you have someone watching the tire and keeping it in place. Its gonna suck but you will at least get ithome. Make sure you drive slowly! There will be debris in the pumpkin and you dont want tomess it up any more than it already is.

I don't know anyone stupid enough besides myself to take a truck down these trails. the jimmy barely fits, thats how I ended up stuck . The axle broke clean right where it starts to twist. I guess that is where it joins the rear diff? I don't know I have never worked on one before.

Hey any news on what happened? Still in the woods?! Assuming not, how did you end up getting it out of there?! If I had seen this thread sooner I would have maybe suggested a little towing help from a 4-wheeler...
