Question Rear differential gear ratio identification

Hello friends out there,
Glad to join u guys on blazerforum.
My cousin has just got a 1996 blazer model but we haven't enjoyed the ride as we found out the differential carrier gear have been damaged ,
We re looking on getting a rebuild kit , but our main problem is to find the gear ratio for that rear differeantial as all spare dealers are asking for it .
Would you help if you check on the car vin: 1GNDT13W1TK133395

Thanks a lot

Rick, Uganda

This is the new member introduction area, not a place to ask questions, but since you posted in here, Look in the glove box for the RPO code.
And match what code you have in there with this list

GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
GV1 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GV2 : AXLE REAR, 5.83 RATIO
GV3 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GV4 : AXLE REAR, 3.36 RATIO
GV5 : AXLE REAR, 3.55 RATIO
GV7 : AXLE REAR, 4.11 RATIO
GV8 : AXLE REAR, 2.72 RATIO
GW2 : AXLE REAR, 2.56 RATIO
GW3 : AXLE REAR, 2.56 RATIO
GW4 : AXLE REAR, 3.31 RATIO
GW5 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GW6 : AXLE REAR, 3.27 RATIO
GW8 : AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
GW9 : AXLE REAR, 2.93 RATIO (DUP WITH GU3)
G80 : AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP

g80 is "posi-trac" not the gear ratio. the ratio should be beside where you found g80

Most likely the gears in your truck will be one of these:
- GU6 - 3.42
- GT4 - 3.73
- GT5 - 4.10
- GU4 - 3.08
As far as I have been able to research, those are the gears that came from factory on the S-series trucks and SUV's. By far the most common were the GU6 and GT4 gears. Like Chris said above, G80 was the posi-trac locking differential and was an option with any of the gear sets.

What size tires are you running that you want 5.83 gears? The size of your engine has a lot less to do with gear ratio selection than the tire size.
