rear end humming under acceleration
#1
hey all haven't been on in a while been driving my jimmy more than ive been talking about it,but i have a rear end humming noise it stop if i let my foot of the gas but at the slightest acceleration it starts it sounds exactly like the video below but some say its ring and pinion some say a cv joint but mine at 55 mph also has a sound that sounds just like the ringing sound you get when you put your finger on a wet wine glass and go around the rim of it, just wondering if i can get some good input on it also my rear end is a 3.42 ratio (gu6) 160k miles.
i cant check the diff fluid someone used an impact on my plug and now its a circle instead of a square also wondering how long i can drive like this? is rear end failure in my near future? ive gone 400 miles since it started the humming and ringing sound (humming sound came first) any help is greatly appreciated.

Low differential fluid can cause a humming noise like that. It's very bad for the bearings. I would remove the cover and inspect the gears for damage. Then drill a hole in the plug and remove it with an easy out. I wouldn't drive it like that.
