hello all, new to this forum, recently picked up a 85 s10 blazer 2 wheel drive with a chevy 305 turbo 350 ,but im told it has the originall rearend in the truck , it originally came with a 4 cylinder my question is anyone know what gears would be in the original rearend,,next question is are the any complete rearends out of full size trucks that would "bolt" right in without any real serious modifications to work,, any info would be greatly appreciated,

I would use an online VIN decoder. If you re-gear the rear, then you will have to do the front as well. Why are you wanting to re-gear? Planning on lifting with bigger tires?

Honesty (and from experience) the factory rear is a time bomb. Its weak and a matter of time before it goes. Ford explorer 8.8 goes under a s-series pretty easy.V8S10.ORG • View topic - FORD 8.8 into a chevy S10!!

To answer your gear question 4.11 and 3.42 were the most common gears behind a 4 banger. Truth be told it could have been ordered with anything offered.

I second the 8.8 swap. Its a rock solid rear! Get one from an ~96-01 explorer it will have disk brakes and 31-splines!

Those years were just a best guess, if the body style is the same as the ~97 then the axle should work, I think they changed things when the changed the body. search the inet for s10 8.8 and you will find a wealth of info. My axle came from a 97 4x4 4dr I believe.
