Trying to replace the driver's side steering axle on a 2001 zr2. Do I really need to remove the steering knuckle to do it? Sure looks like it but I've seen instructions that don't even mention it.

If I have to remove the steering knuckle what special tools am I going to need?
Haynes manual just says "use special tool," and leaves it hanging. Is there a better manual than the Haynes that goes through the procedure in more detail?
