Sloppy Steering...
I bought the truck used with 172K on it. I just replaced the IM Gasket so now I can finally drive it.
I can turn the wheel from about 10-2 o'clock before the truck actually starts to steer in either direction. Also while traveling straight out of a turn the wheel is not in the center while maintaining a straight line.
Is there a common issue that plagues this type of truck.
My first GM, i've only had Fords.
1996 GMC Jimmy SLE 4.3L Auto 4WD.

this isnt and shouldnt be a common problem of any vehicle you deffintly have something loose/broken i would get it checked out asap or you can stick around and someone with a lil more knowledge will chime in and help point you in the right direction and give you some ideas of what to look at and check out.

I have seen the steering shaft going to gear box wear out also real easy to check.go under the hood look for the shaft going to the box have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you look at the shaft may just be worn in or out however you look at it.Also ball joints tie rods ,pit man etc like the rest said.
