you can do what I'm doing with my PS box i got approx 5-6 inch play in mine getting a junkyard box with a guarantee for $60 lol

Check the "rag joint" on the intermediate shaft on the steering column. It's under the plastic cover at the end of the column to gear box. Oil contamination (leaky hose that runs right above it) can soften and/or destroy the join and cause free play in the steering.

I seem to have the same issue. With the wheels straight ahead, the truck parked, it is tight and immediately begins to turn to the right, but has about 15 degrees of play to the right before it begins to turn. When jacked up the right wheel does have some play in it.
