Default Thunk in front end. Drivers side. Torsion bar?

got a large thunk that sounds almost like something shifting into place. Happens when i make hard turns right and left and occasionally on speed bumps. I assumed it was either ball joints, cv joints, or tie rod ends. Got all those checked and they're all perfect. Took it to a mechanic friend who looked at it for free. said he was sure it was the torsion bars and i hear it when i turn both directions and on bumps because the t bar is being loaded/unloaded. Where the bars slide into the control arms, the control arms had started to rust away. He said he wire brushed the rust away, and put in a metal sleeve.Sai he was certaint this would fix the problem and only charged me 80 dollars for the whole evaluation and service. Seemed to stop the noise but today its raining and i heard the noise at least 5 times. I heard it maybe once evry week before. It is not a reppetitive thunkthunkthunk. Just one solid thunk when i turn the wheel hard or hit a bump. Any thoughts? I consider myself pretty mechanically sound but this ones got me going crazy.

I had the same problem and come to find out it was the shocks. When I bought the rs5000's they said mount them upside down cause they won't fit. I had a the same clunking drive me nuts for six months. I see you have a little suspension mod, so my question is what kind of shocks do you have and how are they mounted?

Stock shocks. I don't have em streched far enough to need new ones.

I drove it again today and did not hear the noise once. It was raining last time so ive concluded, if it is wet i hear it a lot but not when its dry.

This might sound silly but I had a similar noise although not particularly the left/right turn bit & thought it was suspension related but everything checked out ok. At first I thought it was in the dash but the more I listened the further it seemed to move to the front of the truck!
I eventually tracked it down to the hood hinges (press down on the corners of the hood by the windscreen & see if it has any play). I raised it on here & someone on the forum, I think it was Kyle (swartlkk), pointed me to a GM fix. A conical spring washer was the solution. I was unable to find one here in New Zealand & used an ordinary one but that did not hold out. In desperation I stuffed a rubber pad in the corner each side by the hinge to absorb the rattle/knock & no problem since. Still need to fix it but why worry when the thunk is no longer there!
Try it. It may be the same thing! Remember sound travels in funny ways on a vehicle! And at least that's one thing less to look for.
