Transfer case
Hey all,I have a 86 GMC Jimmy with a np208 transfer case, what's the difference between the 203 205 & 208? I might be able to get a 203,I think mines ready to spit the chain.Would I be able to switch???? I'm new so be gentle. I'll post more about me after the holidays. Thanks and Merry Christmas.......
1. NP203, cast iron, full time, chain drive, with 1.96 to 1 low range
2. NP205, cast iron, part time, gear drive, sturdy, 2 to 1 low range
3. NP208, aluminum, part time, chain drive, not as tough but shows up in some tough trucks.
If you were looking to switch and keep 2HI, I would get the NP205. You can do a 2wd conversion to the NP203, but this can cause other problems (lack of lubrication in the top part of the case).
