Two questions - front hub stuck and rear diff spline
#1
I am trying to get the driver's side front hub off my 2000 Jimmy. I'm about to break my 3-jaw puller trying to get it broke loose. The hub is good and so is my half-shaft so I don't want to destroy either. I'm replacing ball-joints so I want/need the knuckle off the truck and out of the way. Help......
I have a lock-rite in my '94 S-10 sitting in my father-in-law's garage. I want to put it in my Jimmy's diff. I have looked through a lot of stuff and I cannot positively confirm they have the same spline count. I'd like to know before I go to the trouble of tearing things apart to see. Can anyone confirm for me it'll fit....?
Thanks all......

To ge the Cv out, put the nut back on the CV shaft so that the end of the shaft is equal to the top of the nut (as not to mushroom the cv shaft and it gives you more hitting surface) then beat on it with a hammer and when the CV shaft is loose fron the splined bearing, then take both ball joint nuts off with a open end wrench and pickle fork the ball joints off and then take the spindle out with the hub bearing. And i believe that the rear axle has 30 splines. but im not 100% sure.

Be careful, you don't want to mash your axle nut or you will need to find a replacement for it.

bought a larger 2-jaw puller last night and after oiling the threads and head....and much effort...the hub finally popped and slid off. Good gravy that thing was stuck. Was using my long breaker bar and a 2ft crowbar for leverage.
Now...what about the diff...?

You will probably not like the LockRite locker, they are noisy, have poor on road manners, and are prone to failure by design. I use a Richmond (same maker as the LockRite), PowerTrax locker. It looks similar, but it is not.
On the flip side, you are getting it for free, and they are super easy to install.
Check the online catalogs and see if the part numbers are the same for the two different applications you have.
