. I bought the seal, did I need to buy the bearing as well or could it be regreased

Alright look I lied I didn't buy seal I am at parts store and their trying to say there is 4 different ones. 8.5in ring gear, 7.5, 8.625, and 7.625. I don't know what one

Is your blazer a zr2? They came with the 8.625 inch ring gear while regular blazers have the 7.625. I'm guessing it's the 7.625 because the 8.625 is heavy duty and not as problematic. If you're not confident in your knowledge and skills this is a job for a reputable shop. The consequences for setting it up incorrectly are expensive. It will chew itself apart.

If you have never set up a rear differential before, please take it to a differential shop to have the work done.


GM 10 bolts use a crush sleeve to set the preload on the pinion bearings so the gears in the rear will mesh correctly. when you remove and reinstall that pinion nut the crush sleeve should be replaced and all measurements in the rear diff should be rechecked to make sure your rear differential will not eat itself.
