I am an idiot when it comes to cars so if this is a dumb question sorry. What is the difference between 4wd rims and 2wd rims?

Well, you could do a search to find the answer. However the difference between the rims on the blazers is attributed to backspacing, or the distance from the inside lip of the rim to the mounting surface of the rim. On the 2wd rim the spacing is 4 inches where the 4wd rim is 6 inches. What this means is that on the same vehicle the 4wd ones would not stick out as far. GM did this though on purpose because the axles are wider than what the 2wd setup is, so to make themmatch, more or less, they changed the back spacing.

So if you put the 2wd wheels on a 4wd they will stick out more? how does this affect performance does it cause any problems

It shouldn't, the only thing is the the tire track (measurement from outside of tire to outside of tire on the rear axle) will be larger by 4 inches. Usually if you are going to do this, you are going to be running larger and wider tires than stock, so this would decrease acceleration and braking times due to larger tread (more surface = more friction) and there is more weight in the amount of air put in the tires since there is more internal volume.

The only problem is that you may rub the outer fender if you get large enough tires and dont lift or modify your fenders.

yes with the 2wd wheels and 32's o had to cut the bottom of my fenders. as far as performance? idk but they look better on 4wd's if your running a lift and bigger tires
