Default Cleaning white letter tires

I live in MN and the roads are super dirty, and the white letters on my tires have gotten pretty bad, what is a good way to get them white again?

comet or ajax cleaning powder (yes the bathroom tub and toilet cleaner), sprinkle it on and scrub, always works for me
