No. when you remove the wheel, look behind the caliper. you will see 2 pins One on top,on on bottom.

look at the right of the pic. remove these 2 pins, and tap the top of the caliper to the side with a hammer until the caliper slides off.

To replace the pads, you must remove the caliper from the caliper bracket. You cannot replace the pads without doing this. With the setup on the front of these trucks (98+ at least), the pins are also the bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper bracket. So you did remove them. One common mistake though is not lubricating them with caliper grease before putting things back together. I always try to clean the bores in the caliper bracket really well with some solvent to get all of the old, dried up grease out before lubricating the pins and putting things back together.
Here's the dual piston caliper assembly (courtesy of Compnine.com) as used on the 98+ trucks:

ok, I've been having alot of brake problems lately. I just replaced the brake booster and both rear calipers and pads. My truck was braking fine for about a week. Now my rear driver side brakes lock up. I can't figure out whats wrong with it. No brake lines look kinked or pinched and everything else looks fine. I did have to remove the brake lines from the master cylinder so I could get to brake booster out to replace it. I don't know if I maybe messed things up there or not. Maybe one of you know what I should do or where I should look.
