On some of the posts, it says pictures and refers to them but all I get is little boxes on the left with a red X in them?
What's up with that?

 

If they're hosted on a site like Photobucket they got deleted from their library, it won't show up anymore because the link is dead.

 

Do you see pictures in some post but not others? If you can't view pictures at all try the steps below.

Go to User CP in the top left of the tool bar
Settings and options
Edit options
Scroll down to thread display options
Check the show images box

 

I've tried this. It must be as Dysfunctional said.

Could you post a link to the thread which prompted this question?

Typically, if photobucket images are deleted, there is a place-holder image stating that it has been either moved or deleted (see below).



Other services do this as well, but not all of them.

Another thing to note is that when the forum software changed, any uploaded images (attachments or albums) could not be transferred and were lost.
