Default Rotted fuel/brake line replacement / POR15 on chassis

Hello everyone.

Back to the forum after a while since I have not been driving my Jimmy that much lately... Well here it goes:

A few weeks ago I was checking the undercarriage to look at the damage this winter did. What I found was disturbing (photos attached). In addition to the frame rust and rear suspension doubling this winter alone, I found that the fuel and brake lines are in bad shape and my normal repair shop has stated they should be replaced. To show just how bad this winter alone was, the brake line was replaced in 2010 and had almost no rust on it last year.

With the fuel lines, I ordered a fuel line kit which only includes two lines. However, there are 5 of them on this frame rail (one of which is the brake line) which need replacement. What are the other ones used for and where can I buy them? I really do not want to spend a grand on this so dealer is not an option.

Also after all this is done, I was thinking of taking a wire brush to the old rust and chipped paint and painting the frame with POR15 to stop further rust. I was told that it is just surface rust and the frame is still solid. Has anyone here did this before? How were the results?

I believe it would be a wise move to treat those lines with a rust prevention , they do rust out if not treated consistently , I know because mine are rusted out and hard to get at on top of the frame. It is a sizable job , dropping tank, swapping out lines but preventative measures would have helped slow/stop rust . Your blazer is newer than mine by 10 years so you're in better shape rust wise, but I suggest getting at it now to prevent major headache down the road. Good luck and thanks for the post.

im guessing 5 lines - 1 brake line, 2 fuel pressure line, 3 fuel return line, 4 fuel vent line, and 5 evap line probably going back to the canister

i think ive replaced brake/fuel lines on every older truck i ever owned. its just a way of life out here i guess, i write up cars a lot for having brake lines like this and no one ever wants to pay to fix them. fuel lines must be thicker cause out of the hundreds of cars ive done brake lines on ive never replaced rotted fuel line unless we had to cut one off due to it being stuck on the filter

I have sized up the work ahead ,with the brake line job and can determine , a pressure line from pump to fuel Filter on frame rail and two other lines , a return and I guess the evap line from tank 1/4 in. size anyway, the main line 3/8 in. and return line 5/16 in. The 3 lines are routed from tank hoses / flex lines to gas filter area on top of the frame and hard to access , I know that they are rusted/rotted and I'll remove all of them ,replace them. they end up with quick connectors so that should help . I take your point concerning older vehicle's including the brakes , they also should be swapped out because they'll rust out eventually. Although a bit of hassle it's not that bad to do if you are prepared to take your time and do it. Thanks for the post.
