Strange noise
Hello all this is my first post. I got a 1999 Blazer LS 4-door on saturday and it runs great, there are just a few minor issues and one odd one. The odd one is this noise. I can only hear it from inside the car with the doors closed, otherwise outside noise drowns it out. Upon first hearing it I thought it sounded like the bearings in a fan wearing out, but the blower motor seems fine and the sound doesn't change with the blower motor, and the sound remains even with the blower off. The sound does speed up when I hit the gas, and with a little further investigation it appears to be coming from under the "hump" between the seats, which of course is where the tranny is. However when I put my head under the car, I don't really hear it and the tranny shifts fine. The only things I could think of are the Torque converter or maybe the flywheel is rubbing against the housing or something. Anyone have any ideas?

How's your ATF level?

I haven't checked that yet, though I should have. I will check it as soon as I can and let you know.

It also might be a bad U-joint.
#5
it sounds like it is too far forward for a U-joint, but that is worth a look.

Okay, my tranny fluid was a little bit low, I topped it back off and the noise is still there. It can't be a u-joint because it still makes the noise even when I am in park. So what does that leave? Flex-plate, starter not disengaging?
anyone have any idea?

There's inspection cover on the bottom of bell housing,
Take a look up there and see if there's any rub marks.

that cover is gone, I can see the flywheel spinning through that little window. Will have to take a closer look when the car isn't running, over the weekend.

reviving my old thread. The noise is still there, is it possible it could be a bearing or something in the distributor? does that even make sense?
