Exclamation 96 4wd blazer wont pull

I have a 96 4wd blazer that wont pull in any gear. I let a friend use my blazer on his farm to pull a trailer with hay on it. He was using 4x4 mode pulling the trailer loaded. He said he heard a loud pop and now it wont pull. It acts like it is in neutral. I cant afford to take it to the shop. I am mechanically inclined so I work on my own vehicles. so if anyone knows what the solution to my problem is please let me know. I really would like to be able to drive my blazer again . It has only 138000 miles on it

I'm not sure on what the round bales of hay weigh. I guess around maybe 4000 to 5000 lbs. he had my blazer towed back to my house.

Could be more things.

When pulling the trailer has he been in 2HI or 4HI or 4LO? What are the RPO codes on that Blazer for the trailing options? Trailer package? Trans oil cooler/heat exchanger?

Transfer case chain rupture Would do the same as now it is kinda in neutral.
Transmission. Does reverse work?
Torque converter? Overheated?
Drive shaft in the rear axle? But it would still pull in the front. Never heard of a Blazer brake the shaft anyway.
