Default Electric (brain) meltdown

Hello Members,

I am a Chevrolet S10 4x4 1995 V6 owner from northern sweden.
The little story:
I drove my S10 to work, no problem.
Bussy day at work and was forced to work ower time.
When I finaly sat down in my S10 the engine made one turn ..... to little power in the battery. Angry and stressed I ran to the workshop (we bulid mining machines at work) and got a big 12v battery and starting cables.
I pop the hood and put the cables on the poles on the battery in the car and the extra battery and I sat down in the cab, just when I was going to start the engine it came smoke from the front?? I run to the extra battery and find that I had put the + on the extra battery on the - on the battery in the car. Now I almost killed my self !! I have used startig cables 100 times but this time my brain was doing something else than thinking...
Now the problem: The isolation on the cable between the alternator and the battery melted and when I turn the key the car is totally dead.
I have heard from I friend that the alternator might be dead and I have to replace it. But is there anyhing else that I have burnt up? Does the engine computer box manage this?
If someone have done the same thing or know what parts I mite have to replace, please help me. I am afraid I have killed my S10

Before you do anything,i know there should be a inline fuse on the wire to the starter (lil black stick inline of the wire). So if it blew...Run some wire from your battery to the starter, then try starting it. Maybe you get lucky...
