Default 4x4 jimmy rig

I know I've seen this answered before, I just can't seem to find it anymore. Anyway, I've got a '93 S-10 Blazer, and my 4 wheel drive just doesn't work. I know the vacuum actuator and a few other things are famous for going bad. I just don't have the funds to start replacing things. So, I figured I'd take the actuator off, pull the cable out and clamp it. Living in Indiana, it's a good bet we're gonna see some snow. But when I tried, the cable would not pull out. Not even a little bit. Now I've got no idea what to try. I've seen the homemade posi-lock system, but if the cable won't come out, it's not gonna work. Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
