Default Blazer is acting weird!!

Hi guys and gals I am new to the site and need some help. I own a 91 Blazer and I am having some starting issues. 2 nights ago when leaving the inlaws the blazer wouldn't start. Cranked and all but wouldn't kick over. So I put it in neutral and drifted out of the driveway then it started after a couple trys. When we got home which is close I shut it off and went to start it again and nothing. So I left it alone. Next morning went to start it and it started fine no problems what so ever. Didn't drive it anywhere till today and it started fine when we left. Went to the store and when we left the store it started fine. Then just a couple hours ago went to go to a friends house and it wouldn't start again.

So far I have checked the starter connections and anything that could be loose. I don't think it is getting fuel cause it doesn't smell like it or look like it.

Please if u can help I would appreciate it!!!
Thanks in advance!!!

Check the fuel pump pressure, should be around 60psi, and maybe drop to 55 - 56 at the lowest once it's running

Actually, I believe this truck to be a TBI as I don't think that CPI came about until '92. If that is the case, then the fuel pressure should be around 9-13psi. You will need to remove the fuel line from the throttle body and place an inline pressure gauge fitting. These kits aren't all that expensive and can save you a bunch of money down the road. I know mine has paid for itself already. Some autoparts stores have a tool rental program that will save you some $$$.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

yes it is a tbi ..

took the distriburator cap off and cleaned the hockey puck lookin discus from green to shinny ( friend used to have a 91 which would have problems with this , and suggested this ) .. Then nothing at all .. went to the parts store got starting fluid - probably sprayed to much in - but still no start. The clerk at the desk said that it could be couple things- from :

wiring .
something to do with ignition ,.
fuel pump.
relay .

good news:

fuel pump kicks on .
tonight at 11:30 the blazer started - but at high idle . went took it for a ride and still didn't come down from its high idle. infact almost made me run into my apartment building when i came back . anythoughts? I'm thinking its a relay or wiring some where. but it don't explain the high idle- maybe in the morning it will calm down and restart again who knows. Looking for im put on this . ALSO - if you think the relay is the problem - can someone post a picture of it so we can find it ifyou think thats the cause???

any help is appreiated .

thanks.

i have a 94 and last year I had that problem with no starting. It turned out to be the harness connection on injector core was dirty and just needed cleaning. i don't know if 91's have that wiring but just a thought.

If it ran but at a high idle, then I'd inspect the throttle linkage and warmup idle control... It may be time to clean the throttle body and replace the gasket under it. These are known to have vacuum leaks. To verify, spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid around the base of the throttle body and listen for an increase in idle speed. While the truck is running, do you see consistent spray patterns out of both of the injectors?

well this morning it started right up little high idle but after I drove it around it went away. Probably to much starting fluid. LOL. Seems to run fine and started after I got back and shut it off. So for now it is good but if it acts up again I will post.

Swartlkk- Yes there is consistent spray from both injectors.

Thanks for all the help so far.
