Default A couple questions about replacing brakes

Hi everyone,

I've got a 92 S10 Blazer 4x4 4.3 and I need to replace the front disc brakes on it. I have a few specific questions:

What size is the Allen head on the caliper bolts?

If I'm just replacing the brake pads (which I might do, the rotors look pretty good), will I need to bleed the brakes, or will it not really force any air into the lines if I have to manually retract the caliper pistons?

I've got a Haynes manual already, and I noticed that while it goes into detail about replacing the front wheel bearings in a 2WD, it has no specific instructions for the 4x4. Are the wheel bearings NOT pressed into the rotor?

Thanks!

Default RE: A couple questions about replacing brakes

caliper bolt = 3/8 allen head, replacing pads only does not require bleeding (take cap off master cylinder to make things easier and just push the piston back slowly so to not spill brake fluid out of the master cylinder) in your haynes manual check under K for knuckle in the index it tells you which page for 4wd wheel bearing (hub) assembly info is on (10-6 in one of mine and 10-5 in the other) yes I really have 2 haynes manuals bought one on the way to pick up my truck only to find the next day one stuffed under the backseat.

Thanks! One more question I forgot to ask before, will I need to remove the cotter pin and axel nut to remove the rotor? I'm guessing that pin is pretty rusted up, I'll probably have to buy a replacement.

There's just something funny about buying a truck that already has a repair manual with it.

no the you will not need to remove that pin to take off the rotor that pin only needs to be taken off when replacing hubs to take the axle bolt off

Yep made me worry but it' been 2 years now and so far all it's needed is a new fpr and tune up and a brake job (ok all new brake lines/calipers/rotors/pads/drums/shoes) but still for 140k and $900 2 years ago that does not suck at all (in process of cancer removal/new paintjob/body lift atm)
